GENEVA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, on Thursday called on countries to impose an arms embargo and suspend all trade and investment relations with Israel.
Speaking at the ongoing 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Albanese said Israel "is responsible for one of the cruellest genocides in modern history." She urged states to implement a full embargo on arms sales and halt all trade and investment agreements with Israel.
In a report submitted to the session, Albanese stated that Israel's expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories has been facilitated by the corporate sector, and she called for holding corporate entities accountable for violations of international law.
Earlier this week, Israel's diplomatic mission in Geneva rejected the report, describing it as "legally groundless, defamatory and a flagrant abuse of her office."
